Dave Korn's
Double Century Experience of The Central Coast Double. Well, I
made it! Saturday (May 10th, 1997) was the single hardest day of
physical/mental endurance of my entire life! |

The Race
Across America (RAAM) was first ridden in 1983 as an annual event
patterned after the first ultra-marathon cycling transcontinental race,
the 1982 Great American Bike Race from Los Angeles to New York City, that
featured Lon Haldeman, John Marino, Michael Shermer, and John Howard. RAAM
has been staged every year since, with each race beginning on the west
coast of the United States and ending on the east coast. The starting
cities have all been in California: Santa Monica, Huntington Beach, San
Francisco, Costa Mesa, and Irvine. The ending cities have been New York
City, Atlantic City, NJ, Washington D.C., and Savannah, GA. The distances
of each race have been between 2,901 to 3,150 miles, depending upon the
route, which varies from year to year. |
